They Are What They Eat

They say that an entrepreneur is someone who solves problems for profit. As pet groomers, the main problem we solve is dirty pets. However, we all do that. How can we differentiate ourselves from the other groomers in our area? Solve another problem.
We can do this by educating our clients on important topics that concern the well being of their pets. One such topic is how diet impacts a pet’s health.

The Importance of Insurance

Insurance payments can represent a significant amount of our monthly business expenses. While the goal of any business owner is to keep expenses in check, this is one category that you want to be careful with when trying to save money. I have to groom five dogs monthly to cover my insurance payment so I want to make sure my coverage is adequate.

Keeping in Touch with your Clients

Do you know how large, multimillion–dollar companies grow their businesses? They focus on client retention. And while these companies may have huge budgets, the premise is very simple. Keep in contact with your current clients. Earn loyalty.

Live Events

Get Your Business Name Out There
If I could only do one form of marketing, it would be live events. I love them! The social butterfly in me is indulged. I meet people and chitchat all day long.

Anatomy of an Ad

I am the proud owner of a new grooming van. It was as much as a surprise for me as it was for my friends and clients as I planned on retiring from grooming soon. In anticipation of retirement, I did not replace most of my clients that passed away or moved. It was a pretty sweet schedule, as I did not have a lot of expenses that necessitated a full roster.

All About Paws

As I write this article, I am sitting in the office of Pawsitively Pretty still wearing my paw-print grooming smock. I’m a little bummed today because I lost a paw print hoop earring. However, as I look around my office I see all sorts of paws on my walls, schedule book, and business cards. I know I’m not alone in my paw obsession. I bet all sorts of paws surround other groomers on a daily basis.

What is Effective Marketing?

I was driving somewhere with my kids who, at the time, were five, four, and two years old. They were playing a game in the back seat identifying other vehicles on the road. My four year–old very excitably pointed out the soda truck. My five year–old promptly corrected her. “That’s not a soda truck, that’s a Coke truck.”

Client Surveys

I was sitting at a client’s kitchen table after I finished grooming Misty. I was talking to Mrs. about something funny Misty did when Mr. handed me the customer survey I had given him when I first arrived. He told me that the reason they followed me from the shop I worked at was because I had the best customer service they had ever received from a groomer.

Behind the Scenes:

The 140th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show
I remember the first time I went to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. I was a baby groomer and the school took us on a field trip. I was absolutely floored by the grooming. And I had never seen so many well-behaved dogs at one time. That is until the min pins entered the ring. It was, in two words, awe inspiring.
