On Saturday, April 23rd 2016 Gary lost his battle with cancer. As the Service and Repair Manger at Ryan’s Pet Supplies, and an industry fixture for over 30 years, he offered his “Tips” and knowledge in the way of videos, seminars and articles in Groomer to Groomer.
The Hershey Lodge and Convention Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania, will once again welcome nearly 5,000 groomers and pet care professionals through its doors for Groom Expo, the world’s largest grooming show. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Groom Expo will feature a bustling trade show, world class education, and GroomTeam-sanctioned grooming competitions in addition to special events like the Barkleigh Honors Awards. The All Breed Dog Grooming Guide 4th Edition

Sam Kohl has been an industry legend since before I was even old enough to hold a dog brush. Earlier editions of his All Breed Grooming Guide were the standard “bible” for groomers for a great many years. Not one to leave well enough alone, he completely revamped and updated the guide in 2012.

The Shetland Sheepdog, usually referred to as a “Sheltie”, sports a double coat with a very dense undercoat which actually helps the straight outer coat to stand off from the body. This is a very important trait for the conformation ring. Not so much for the average pet owner who requests a tidy look and has some difficulty maintaining the abundant coat.
There are many ways to define “family.” Traditional definitions include parents and children and immediate relatives. More modern takes on what defines “family” include a wide array of possibilities, including blended families from remarried parents, same-sex parents with children, grandparents raising grandchildren, and so on.

Drying cats can be particularly challenging because they tend to curl their legs up to their bellies while we work on them. It’s the rare cat that will stand up to be dried. Time spent wrapped in a warm, dry towel is particularly effective for the felines on your client list. I like to wrap them up and cuddle them, gently squeezing their legs and tail through the towel to remove water.
It is no secret that I am moving in a parallel direction to grooming. Several times a week, I would pass by and notice an office for rent, which overlooked a golf course. I could hear it call my name. I am not sure what took so long (maybe fear), but on New Year’s Eve 2012, I made the decision to follow my dream and open up a Reiki Wellness and Educational Center for both people and animals.
